Ringed Tang

Zebrasoma desjardinii

The Ringed Tang, or Desjardin's Sailfin Tang, or Red Sea Sailfin Tang is found in the Red Sea and the western Indian Ocean. It swims at depths of 2 to 30 meters, and is mainly found grazing on algae. Juvenile Ringed Tangs, which can be confused with the juveniles of Z. veliferum, are found singly between rocks and corals in areas with strong currents while adults usually are found in pairs.
