Buffon’s Macaw or Great Green Macaw

Ara ambigua

The Great Green Macaw or Buffon’s Macaw is an endangered species with a limited distribution in the Atlantic wet lowlands of Central America, from Honduras south to northern Colombia, and a small isolated population in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Buffon’s Macaws are usually seen in pairs or small groups of up to a dozen. They are a social bird and enjoy the company of their flock or of a mate.
