Definition of surface, in parametric equations:

where:

  • and are parameters with values 1.0 and 1.2, respectively, in this graph. The ratio / determines how deformed the accordeon looks. If / = 1 then there is no deformation (the accordeon is like its parent, the cochlea).
  • is a parameter ranging from 0 to 2 with a step of /20, giving the 40 frames shown here
  • is a parameter with value 1.76 for this graph.
  • u ranges from -4.5 to 6, resulting in the specific number of folds of the accordeon
  • v ranges from -8 to 8, defining the diameter of the virtual vertical cylinder within which the accordeon lies.
