Black-capped Lory

Lorius lory

This lory is found in the lowland rainforests and swamp forests of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is one of the larger lory species. These birds can be very noisy. In the wild they are seen in small groups of up to ten, but most frequently live as single pairs. Their diet includes pollen, nectar, flowers, fruit and insects.

The above picture was taken in the Attica Zoological Park, Athens, Greece, in June 2007.
